Eli - Age 14
Defect: Unlike everyone else from his world, Eli cannot store light or shine it from his eyes.
Issues: Eli appeared one morning on the steps of the orphanage, unconscious and covered in scratches. How he got there, no one knows.
Now usually found shivering near a light source - a candle, a window, a fireplace - Eli is an invalid. In fact, he shouldn't be alive at all. No other child has ever survived with two dark eyes, but Eli believes his eyes were dark since birth. The guardians, however, aren't so sure.
As the orphans' nightmare unfolds, the most terrible things Eli encounters are not in the darkness...they are locked deep in his mind.
